Police have arrested a third person for the attempted robbery of a woman jogging on the Muizenberg catwalk.
Police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp said the 26-year-old Hillview man was arrested in Muizenberg on Monday March 28, the day after two men and a woman tried to rob the jogger at 7.20am (“Two arrested after attempted robbery,” Echo March 30).
One of the robbers had threatened the jogger with a gun and demanded her cellphone. The 38-year-old Muizenberg resident resisted and ran to the police station, where officers sprang into action and quickly apprehended one of the suspects, a 20-year-old Hillview man, at the Muizenberg railway station.
A woman carrying a CZ 9mm pistol was also arrested that same morning. The third man, who was arrested by Detective Constable Refilwe Maphanga, appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday March 29.
Meanwhile, the Wynberg cluster reported 164 arrests for various charges, ranging from shoplifting to murder, from Monday March 27 to Sunday April 2.
The cluster includes Muizenberg,Simon’s Town, Ocean View and Fish Hoek, among other precincts.
