Far south residents had a chance to visit 13 gardens in the picturesque village of Noordhoek, last week, for Open Gardens 2018.
Gardening enthusiasts strolled through each garden, taking in the beauty while enjoying a glass of wine and other refreshments from the friendly hosts.
This annual garden event has become well known in recent years. Various categories of gardens were on display – food gardens, large gardens, indigenous gardens, a permaculture garden and formal gardens.
The event was organised by Noordhoek Tourism and On the Verge Community Project.
Bruce and Louise Fyfe’s food garden in Village Lane displayed kitchen herbs and veggies at the foot of a young orchard leading to wine cellars and a half-acre boutique working vineyard.
A large garden, home to Andrew and Samantha Hart of Potomac Place, displayed rolling lawns sweeping down to a small natural water hole with an island.
Artists were painting in the garden while the local garden tortoise came out to greet the visitors.
An indigenous garden belonging to Anca and Ollie Wright, of Keurboom Avenue, offered different paths on the property, one leading to a tranquil, fairy-like bench with floppy pillows nestled in between trees.
A formal garden belonging to Tone and Claire Alexander offered perfectly trimmed hedges and manicured garden beds. Garden goods, collected by the couple during recent travels, were on sale and visitors enjoyed refreshments at the tea garden while two massive marble dogs kept an eye on them.
