Five people between the ages of 20 and 61 were arrested during the weekend for charges relating to illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of drugs.
The Ocean View SAPS Crime Prevention Unit and the Major Offences Reaction Team followed up on a tip-off and searching premises in Ivy Court, Ocean View, where the discovery was made.
Police spokesman, Sergeant Leon Fortuin, said a Llama pistol containing four live rounds of ammunition as well as a homemade rifle capable of discharging ammunition was recovered along with five packets of tik and half a mandrax tablet. The estimated street value of the drugs is R280. An undisclosed amount of cash was also retrieved.
He said the suspects appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday February 12.
“The station management is delighted with the arrests, especially after the community’s calls for the police to take action and to get the streets back. Station management hopes that the community has seen the increased police visibility, and that trust can be restored between the community and the police. We will continue to maintain a high police visibility in Ocean View to ensure that the community can live without the fear of crime and can feel safe in their homes once again,”Sergeant Fortuin said.
