The public will get a chance to look into the studios of Noordhoek’s artists next weekend.
Open Studios is being spearheaded by ceramicists Hazel Anderson and Jacqui Phillips, who describe it as recalling the ethos of the Noordhoek Art Route established in 1990. It’s also being billed as a spin-off of Noordhoek’s Open Gardens, which gives the public a peek into the pretty gardens in this bucolic part of the far south.
“We have an inspiring amount of local creative talent in the valley, and what better way to showcase their work by inviting visitors into their studios to admire, appreciate and connect with the artists themselves,” said Hazel.
“There are 12 studios with 16 artists included in the art route this year, and all are local ceramicists, sculptors and artists working in different media.”
Apart from Hazel and Jacqui, the other artists opening their studios are Lynne Eatwell, Kirsten Green, Catherina Pagani, Francois Vigilietti, Nola Muller, Alison Faraday, Isabelle Webb, Andrew Hart, Roger Melvill, Kathy Fish, Lorette Espi, Steven Joffe, Shelly Maisel and Richard Gunston.
The event, which runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday April 13 and 14, will support the Borderlands arts initiative (“Crossing borders by bridging divides,” Echo, March 28), which creates participatory experiences for people from diverse communities. A day pass is R100 and a single entry is R25.
