The quick reaction of Muizenberg SAPS led to the arrest of armed robbers.
On Monday March 27, at 7.20am, a woman who had just been held at gunpoint, rushed into Muizenberg SAPS offices and reported that three people had just attempted to rob her.
The woman explained that she had been approached by two men and a woman while jogging on the catwalk. One of the suspects threatened her with a firearm and demanded her cellphone.
The 38-year-old Muizenberg resident resisted and immediately ran to the police station to ask for assistance.
Captain Stephen Knapp took two officers with him and went down to the Muizenberg railway station with the woman. After a short search, one of the suspects who fitted the description was pointed out to the police and subsequently arrested.
The suspect, a 29-year-old resident of Hillview, is currently being held at Muizenberg police station.
When Captain Knapp arrived back at the police station, it was discovered that another suspect in the robbery, a
woman aged 26, had been apprehended by Lieutenant Colonel Diedre Engelbrecht.
The woman was found to be in possession of a firearm allegedly used in the attempted robbery. The firearm, a CZ9mm pistol and one round of ammunition is registered to an owner in Johannesburg but has not been reported stolen.
Muizenberg police are looking for the third suspect.
The suspects face charges of possession of an illegal firearm, attempted armed robbery and pointing of a firearm.
The case has been allocated to Detective Constable Refilwe Maphanga and anybody with any information regarding the
incident or the whereabouts of the third suspect is asked to contact her on 021 787 9031 or 082 522 1809.
