About six weeks ago I was hijacked in Bayview, Strandfontein by three men, of which two had firearms and one was armed with a knife.
I was shot in the ankle, which resulted in them taking my vehicle.
Thus far I have had two operations on the foot, with more to come. Fortunately for me, the tracking company found the vehicle half and hour after it was stolen in Khayelitsha. By then, however, the items stolen from my boot amounted to R30 000.
Crutches was my only means of getting around, but this was painful as the foot did not want to hang down. Being an active member of the neighbourhood watch, I put out a request for a wheelchair that is not being used from anyone in our area.
Within two hours of me putting this on our chat group, I was texted by one of my neighbourhood watch colleagues, saying they have raised enough funds from our Muizenberg residents and neighbuorhood watch to buy a new wheelchair for me.
I stood in amazement to see how the community came together to do what they did. The wheelchair is helping me to be mobile, in that now I can go to the library and visit some of my friends at home. I want to thank all those who contributed and prayed, for their generosity in helping a fellow resident in time of crises and need. This is Ubuntu in action, thank you once again to those who generously gave toward helping me out. God bless.
