Members of the Izivunguvungu MSC Youth Band in front of the Peter Pan Statue after performing at the Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital on Remembrance Day. The Izivunguvungu project was started in 1996 as a navy community outreach programme for the children of the areas around Simon’s Town. The band also remembers one of its youngest members, Aqueel Davids, who was killed by a stray bullet from warring gangsters in September 2017 in Ocean View. His name is inscribed on the Ocean View wall of remembrance as “Aqueel Davids, forever 9”.
