It is with much concern that we note a sharp rise in ATM fraud, targeting senior citizens in the Fish Hoek Main Road.
At the moment the hot spots are the Standard Bank, Capitec Bank, Nedbank and First National Bank ATMs. Times are random but the modus operandi is the same.
Two people hover around the ATM, one pretending to be on his phone, the other standing behind the person attempting to withdraw money. Person B then pushes his way into the transaction, offering to help and the card is taken or switched. Within minutes person A has withdrawn money from accounts.
We ask people using the ATM’s to be vigilant and to enable us to take action and help our senior citizens and all victims, to report such incidents immediately: Stop/cancel your card immediately, whilst you are at the ATM, contact the bank immediately, contact Fish Hoek SAPS at 021 784 2728 to get a case number and contact the Fish Hoek Crime Prevention Centre on 072 980 4335.
This is a secure WhatsApp line to assist us in creating a record to submit to various stakeholders concerning security for all in our area.
