Susuan O’Hagan Ward, Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope
Rotarians woke on Tuesday last week to the very sad news that our dear friend, Jean Smythe, had passed away.
Jean was the epitome of a lady. She was always welcoming, friendly and smiling and never had a cross word. Jean was loved by all who knew her.
Jean loved nature and gardening. She had a beautiful home and garden overlooking False Bay and the beach, and she enjoyed beautifying “dull areas“ in our town.
The gardens on Simon’s Town Road, outside Sunny Cove station, Quarry Road and the spekboom garden at the Clovelly Bridge are all a testament and a living memory to her.
She loved life, line-dancing, aquarobics, playing bowls, running her B&B, and gardening.
She belonged to the Fish Hoek Garden Club, and was a loyal member of Rotary. She enjoyed walking and could often be seen walking along the Simon’s Town Road to the Glencairn lookout with her cousin.
A life lived to the fullest.
Dearest Jean, you will be missed but always remembered.
