Gwen Coppin, Fish Hoek
We were so sad to hear of the death of Abraham Coetzee, better known as Al, on Saturday January 8.
Al was well-known and loved by Fish Hoek residents, sitting in his wheelchair in front of the old FNB building in Fish Hoek. Rest in peace, Al. You will be missed by your friends here in Fish Hoek.
I have known him for about 16 years as my late husband, Johan van Niekerk, used to tidy the garden where Al stayed in First Avenue, Fish Hoek. After that, the place caught alight and he was homeless, so I would keep his cash and ID safe for him.
My friend, Valerie, her husband, Michael, and their sons helped Al as well with fixing his wheelchair.
Valerie also tried to get him into a nursing home so he could be more comfortable. May God bless him in his heavenly home. From Valerie and Michael Kerr, their sons and me.
