Four armed men robbed the Fish Hoek post office on Thursday March 10 and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, police say.
The robbers entered the post office just after noon and held a teller at gunpoint, said Fish Hoek police spokesman Warrant Officer Peter Middleton.
“The suspects robbed the branch of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in a silver-coloured Peugeot.”
The vehicle was later spotted on Kommetjie Road and a chase ensued into Masiphumelele, where police apprehended a 48-year-old suspect, but the money was not recovered.
On Monday, Ndumisi Baliwe, from Crossroads, appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on a robbery charge.
SA Post Office spokesman Johan Kruger said no shots were fired and nobody was injured in the incident.
“The employees were traumatised by the incident and received counselling,” he said.
