A former critical-care nurse, Lilian Ralton returned to the far south two month ago from America for her retirement. After reading in the False Bay Echo about the need for two blood-warming machines to help resuscitate patients who are in shock and in need of blood transfusions at False Bay Hospital, she decided to ask her former colleagues at Gwinnett Medical Center in Atlanta for help (“Hospital to raise funds,” Echo, July 11). With help from doctors and staff, Ms Ralton managed to raise R5 500 which she handed over to the hospital on Friday September 6.
