The Fish Hoek Lions Club treated clients of Happy Valley Home, a homeless shelter in Simon’s Town, to a hearty meal on Friday last week.
The initiative was intended as the club’s Mandela Day project in July but was postponed due to flooding.
The team prepared beef stew, served with rice and salad, followed by dessert and hot chocolate.
Lion Brent Proctor also facilitated a quiz and the winning team won some chocolates.
“We were able to sit down and enjoy the meal with the clients. The joyous evening, filled with laughter and good food, was thoroughly enjoyed by not only the clients and staff of Happy Valley but also by the Lions,” said Club president Mandy Proctor.
Happy Valley manager Patrick Msakayeya said the food and quiz were enjoyed by all.
He said there had been 50 clients in attendance and for those who missed out on the special evening due to work obligations, a delicious meal awaited them on their return.
He said he assisted the Lions by serving clients on the night.
