Man drowns trying to save teen

A man drowned on the False Bay coastline on Wednesday January 10.
Two people are recovering in hospital and another died following a drowning at the Wolfgat Nature Reserve on the False Bay coastline yesterday.

A 13-year-old girl got into difficulty while playing in the shallows of the water.

A 29-year-old man from Mitchell’s Plain spotted her being drawn into deeper waters. He went in to rescue her, but also got into difficulty.

Another bystander then went in but he also got into difficulty.  

The girl and the bystander managed to swim back to safety, but the 29-year-old drowned.

Lifeguards, who arrived on the scene administered CPR, but it was in vain. 

The two survivors were transported to hospital for further treatment.
