A Simon’s Town Community Police Forum (CPF) project to help street people get back on their feet has been revived after it stalled during lockdown. The pink-vest project – now the orange-vest project – trains street people to be parking attendants. They wear an orange vest with their names and a number as identification. CPF chairperson Eileen Heywood says they are vetted by the CPF and are only given an orange vest after they have been given police clearance and signed a code of conduct. In recent weeks, new vests were given to participants. Ms Heywood says there were too many pink vests “floating around” and the CPF wanted to ensure there are no “scamsters”.
