The Forever Young Seniors Club in Ocean View visited Cape Point Nature Reserve on Tuesday September 10, as part of the annual SA National Parks Week.
ARKYS Outreach, a non-profit organisation, and the club’s founder Mutheera Fortune, of Mutheera’s Projects, organised the outing.
Ms Fortune said “excitement was in the air” as the group boarded the Table Mountain National Park bus at the community hall.
She said there was laughter and singing on the bus ride as the seniors enjoyed the view en route to the park.
SANParks treated the group to a free funicular ride, taking them to the top of the walkway where they could see the entire peninsula stretched out behind them.
Ms Fortune said the wind was too strong for some of the seniors to make it to the lighthouse, but others braved the wind and made it to the top.
From there, the group made their way to the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre to see the Origins of Early Southern Sapiens Behaviour exhibit before returning home.
Valda Kallis said it was her first time at Cape Point and she was “blown away”.
“The guide’s information was exceptional, and I never realised there was so much to see. The atmosphere on the bus was crazy with all the singing and excitement. It’s a day that will not be forgotten,” she said.
