City disaster risk management teams visited Masiphumelele over the weekend to advise residents how to protect themselves from Covid-19.
The teams went through the the township on foot, handing out soap and using loud hailers to spread the word about the importance of social distancing and washing hands with soap for at least 20 minutes.
More information drives like this one are planned for other areas, according to councillor Felicity Purchase.
“ Thanks a lot guys at least you are trying to keep us safe,” said resident Ayesha Yomza on Facebook.
Councillor Simon Liell-Cock held a similar campaign in Ocean View on Friday March 20 and handed out pamphlets about the virus.
He said he was worried not everyone was online or had data to get relevant information.
For someone to be confirmed positive for Covid-19 they need to have flu-like symptoms (mild to severe respiratory illness with a sudden onset of fever, cough, difficulty breathing and a sore throat) and have either travelled to a high risk country or been in contact with person who has the virus.
