Anger against gender-based violence reached boiling point last week after the brutal murders of UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana, 19, UWC student Jesse Hess, 19, Sandisile Mona, 17, of Plettenberg Bay and boxer Leighandre Jegels, 25, among others. Thousands of people, mostly women, gathered outside the gates of Parliament on Thursday for one of the largest protests ever of its kind. The message was clear: Enough is enough. In the far south south it was no different. Men and women from various communities came out in numbers to show their support to women and children who suffer at the hands of men. The groups all wore black and carried placards.
