It’s all systems go with False Bay Folk Club despite a change to the normal schedule as the Clovelly Country Club was not available on the first Tuesday of the month, but the second Tuesday, September 13, promises the usual full programme of music.
The artists this month will be Mads Ginn with backing from Reini Adelbert; Faye and Wren; and Richard Buhr, also known as Wild Lettuce.
First up are Mads and Reini. Mads has been a lead vocalist in cover bands over the years, most significantly with Back to Back with Kenny Bird at the helm. She recently joined the newly-formed Out of the Blue where she met Reini and then, inspired by his original work, became involved with False Bay Folk. Her influences include Joni Mitchell, Carole King and James Taylor. Reini will be backing Mads for her debut at False Bay Folk.
This will be followed by Faye and Wren, a South African group fronted by singer-songwriter duo – Wren Hinds (Hinds Brothers Band) and ambient songstress Faye Oakes. The outfit have crafted an honest and captivating sound performing on the Southern African music scene and with their unique performances they have harnessed a dedicated listenership.
Although their influences, culture and backgrounds are diverse – Faye raised on the borders of Alexandra in the east of Johannesburg and Wren growing up in a small coastal town in the South East of KwaZulu-Natal, it’s clear that their meeting place is through music and connecting with music listeners who can expect an original sound that captures a timeless place with a sincere style of writing.
A fascinating mix of sounds is what you will hear with Reinhardt Wild Lettuce Buhr, an ever-evolving World Fusion multi-instrumentalist. He blends the sounds of the flamenco guitar’s unpredictable rhythms with the ancient harmonies of the Australian didgeridoo, combined with epic ethereal elec- tric cello sounds. A kick drum and pure analog delay is added to the diverse mix of instruments which then create a timeless improvisational sound journey.
Doors open at 6.30pm and supper orders to be in by 7pm. The show starts at 7.30pm. The cover charge is R50. Call 021 782 2920, email carlscatering@ hotmail.co.za or SMS Jeanette at 083 321 3651 to book.
