Veteran Groote Schuur Hospital nurse Natasha Booth is a semi-finalist in the Mrs South Africa pageant to be held in Johannesburg in July.
Sister Booth, 49, of Muizenberg, has been at Groote Schuur for 27 years and works in the renal dialysis unit.
Her experience of caring for people drove her to enter Mrs South Africa, she says.
“I knew that this would be a stepping stone to get involved in community work involving empowering young women.
“I applied to join the Mrs South Africa programme because it teaches women to be independent and to be the woman they were intended to be and not to be scared of what other people think of them.”
When she is not working, she enjoys dress-making and attending her church in Lavender Hill.
The pageant is open to women aged 25 to 55 and it aims to take them out of their comfort zones, according to Mrs South Africa CEO Joani Johnson.
“We help them face their fears, find their purpose, and discover the strength and abilities they held inside all along.”
Sister Booth is one of 104 semi-finalists, and she is appealing for support to cover some of her expenses, including transport and accommodation. Email natashabooth56@gmail.com if you can help. SMS Tash Booth to 47587 until Wednesday July 3 if you want to help her reach the top-30 finalists.
