Artists will be doing it out in the open on Saturday April 7 when Noordhoek holds its first Plein Air Art Festival.
It has been organised by local painters Andrew Hart and Roger Melvill and will feature 40 artists ranging from students to professionals.
The art produced on the day will be auctioned at the Noordhoek Farm Village, with 30% of the proceeds supporting crime-prevention initiatives in the valley.
The artists’ entry fees will go to the same cause.
“We invite the public to come and stroll around our valley, see the artists at work and become inspired,” said Andrew. “
This is an incredible opportunity to acquire original artwork from local, well-known and award-winning artists such as Christopher Reid, Derric van Rensburg, Andrew Cooper, Donna McKellar, Nola Muller, Sue Tatham, Lynne-Marie Eatwell and Fawa Conradie – and help keep our valley safe.”
A map at the Food Barn Deli will show where each of the artists will be positioned for the day.
From 7.30am to 9am, artists will arrive and register at the Noordhoek Farm Village and then decide where they wish to put up their easel.
They will place a flag with their name on the map, and any time from 9am the public will be able to find the artists at work at the beach, at the common, in private gardens or any other location of their choosing.
Art collectors and buyers can register for the auction, getting a number and a complimentary glass of wine, from 4pm, when the artists will return to display their work. It will go under the hammer from 5pm to 7.30pm.
There will be food stalls and a cash bar for the browsing public. Call or SMS Andrew Hart at 082 970 0806 for more details.
