One of the highlights of the Rotary year is the official visit from the Rotary District Governor (DG).
On Tuesday November 7, DG Lynette Stassen visited the local Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope and some of the club’s projects.
In Masiphumelele they went from Sinethemba Special Care Centre, to Kiddies Corner Pre-school where the children sang for their visitors, and then on to Masakhane Educare Pre-schools. The Rotary group then moved on to Ocean View and went to the Open Door where social worker Supervisor, Sue Burger showed Ms Stassen the two Rotary projects in action.
The social workers were busy consulting in their offices, while overseas volunteers were working with youth groups on the community project side, and a training session was taking place in the boardroom, so the new building was warm and active.
The group also paid a visit to the Green Curtains early childhood development centre (ECD) before doing a quick drive past of the Rotary Youth Camps in Glencairn.
The club meeting included a raid by the Rotary Club of Hout Bay and the happy induction of Koos Burger, manager of the Rotary Youth Camps in Glencairn, who was supported on the night by his wife, Antoinette.
Koos is an avid horticulturalist and is planting indigenous trees and shrubs like spekboom to refurbish his beloved labyrinth, that was burned out in the January fires this year.
In her talk, DG Stassen stressed that Rotarians’ good reputations go before them and encouraged the club to concentrate on their core business which is using their collective vocational expertise, to help others in many diverse ways, and in so doing fulfil their needs.
