P Keating, Muizenberg
I can’t believe the postal services/government cannot pay the rent for the Muizenberg post office (“End of an era for Muizenberg post office,” Echo March 17).
I, along with a great number of people, have been constant customers over many years – from the old Muizenberg post office on Main Road to the post office at the Shoprite centre. I have also always held a post box over all those years.
I am a pensioner, but not only pensioners and those who suffer health problems and disabilities find it difficult to get to Fish Hoek or Tokai or Retreat. Do we get reimbursed for the annual payment of our post boxes as they are still valid and we have paid for them?
As they are in demand, where will we get another post box at another post office where we won’t struggle to get to regularly?
If a physical address is given will our mail be delivered by old school bike, weekly? And who do we contact?
• South African Post Office spokesman Johan Kruger said Mr Keating’s post could be delivered to his home should he request so at his nearest post office, which is situated in Blue Route Mall in Tokai. Despite several follow-up emails about a refund for Mr Keating’s post box, Mr Kruger did not respond by time of publication.
