A programme of talks will explore the history of the Zandvlei estuary as well as some of the challenges it faces today.
The talks are organised by the Zandvlei Trust, a public benefit organisation dedicated to protecting Zandvlei and its surrounds. They will be presented at The Lookout hall in Promenade Road, Lakeside, every Thursday over the course of a month, from 6pm.
On August 31, Zanvlei Trust chairman David Bristow will give an illustrated talk on the history of Zandvlei; on September 7, the Cape Leopard Trust’s Helen Turnbull will talk about their conservation efforts with leopards as well as with caracal, hyenas and Verreaux’s (black) eagles, from Table Mountain to Namaqualand; on September 14, geological consultant, climber and fly-fisher Andy Killick will look at the dynamics and management of Zandvlei over the past several decades; on September 21, Andrew McDonald, who leads the City’s Liveable Urban Waterways project, will talk about initiatives to rehabilitate and rewild our rivers; on September 27, Kelly Gilmour, Olivia Murgatroyd and Associate Professor Deena Pillay will present the results of two Master’s degrees on pollution and water quality in the vlei.
Entry to the talks is free but space is limited. For any enquiries, email: info@zandvleitrust.org.za
