Legendary Cape jazz pioneer Hilton Schilder will launch his new album, Alter Native on Saturday September 23 at Olympia Bakery in Kalk Bay, at 8pm, and on Tuesday September 26, at Cafe Roux, at 8.30pm. The launch and album feature Mark Fransman on saxopone and flute, Eldred Schilder on double bass and Carlo Fabe on the skins. Hilton is on piano, guitar, bows, melodica and vocals and there are special guest vocal appearances by Hilton’s daughter, Duende, and also from Mishka Reddy. The album represents Hilton’s musical and cultural roots combined with modern jazz influences. Ticket for the Olympia Bakery launch cost R150 online or R180 at the door.
