The False Bay Yacht Club Spring Regatta takes place tomorrow Friday September 15, Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17.
The regatta attracts more than 50 entries with representatives from all keelboat sailing clubs in the Western Cape.
It is also the preparation event for the Mossel Bay off-shore race, which takes place the following weekend.
The event kicks off the summer sailing season in the Cape and is characterised by good sailing off Simon’s Town, a competitive environment and a vibrant sailing festival atmosphere.
This year, the event will also feature live tracking so those on shore can follow the action on the water.
The False Bay Yacht Club will be bustling with bands playing live throughout the weekend and plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
There will be competitions, entertainment for the youngsters, a food market, hourly raffle draws, fun prizes and happy hours all weekend.
The weekend kicks off with racing starting at 1pm. Once the competitors are back on shore; the band Crimson will be rocking the club from 7pm.
The fun starts again on Saturday at noon with an open food market, a jumping castle and face painting for the kids.
Horizon’s Tales will take to the stage to play their hearts out from 2pm to 5pm.
The evening kicks off with one of Cape Town’s top bands: Empire Alight at 6pm.
Interspersed all day will be live commentary of the tracked racing by Deon Bing with the club DJ filling in the gaps.
Sunday afternoon is a little more mellow with the Dusty Rhodes Band playing from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
