A Noordhoek resident and three foreign tourists, walking on Sunrise Beach on Sunday afternoon, were threatened with a knife by three teenage boys.
According to Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp, the robbers ordered the women to sit, then took their cash, cellphones, rings and other valuables before running off into the dunes.
Constables Jason Pieterse and Ntando Silwane, of Muizenberg SAPS, were doing beach patrols on quad bikes at the time and started searching for the robbers. The officers pursued three suspects across Baden Powell Drive and arrested them.
They also seized a knife and items matching the women’s stolen property. The suspects, two aged 15 and the third aged 14, are all from Vrygrond. They were held at Muizenberg police station on charges of robbery and possession of stolen goods, said Captain Knapp.
They appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 21.
