The body of a man found in a shallow grave in a Noordhoek garden more than a month ago has been identified as Pierre Bretonnes, according to police.
Fish Hoek police spokesman, Warrant Officer Peter Middleton, said his body was found in the garden of his Gertie Way home on Friday September 30 but police had to wait for DNA analysis before identifying him.
His next of kin have been informed.
Mr Bretonnes, a French national, had been missing since Thursday September 8 but was only reported missing by one of his staff members at the end of September, (“Body found in shallow grave in Noordhoek,” Echo, October 1).
Warrant Officer Middleton said after discovering the body, detectives and crime scene experts combed the property and there had been an indication of a struggle in the house and an attempt to cover up the crime scene.
Following the discovery of the body, Fish Hoek police arrested a Zimbabwean man, Trevor Moyo, 24, in Hout Bay on Saturday, October 1. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of some of Mr Bretonnes’s property, said Warrant Officer Middleton.
Mr Moyo made a brief appearance in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 3, and his case was postponed for a bail application.
On Thursday October 27, Mr Moyo appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court where he abandoned his bail application as it was found that he was illegally in the country.
