The congregation which started Star of the Sea Convent School, the Dominican Order, celebrates its 800th anniversary this year. The school collected tins of jam and peanut butter for the National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa’s Children for Children drive, to honour the congregation’s celebrations. The charity was also chosen as it would benefit children directly as benefiting children was the driving force behind the establishment of Dominican schools in Cape Town. The jubilee photograph, with some of the jars collected, includes Grade R to Grade 4 children as well as the Grade 7s.
