Farewell for Roger

Family, friends and colleagues of Roger Pardoe, 26, gathered at Clovelly Beach, on Sunday June 20, for a paddle-out in his honour. His mother, Diane, said his untimely death on Monday June 14 had come as a huge shock. Her son had grown up in Fish Hoek and had shown a love for the ocean from a young age, she said. He had joined the Nippers and had spent many years bodyboarding and surfing. “The water was his great love, and the love poured out by both his fellow surfers, members of the public and friends who knew him was well evidenced in the abundance of people that showed up for the emotional paddle-out,” she said. After matric, Roger spent five years in Australia and started a career in financial planning and investments. He returned to Cape Town in 2017 and was living in a flat in the city at the time of his death. “He had a great future ahead of him and will be missed by all,” Diane said.
