It’s almost time for the annual Just Nuisance Day this Saturday March 30 at Jubilee Square, Simon’s Town. The event, which takes place from 8am to 3pm, is named after Just Nuisance, the giant Great Dane with a larger than life personality and the first dog ever to be officially enrolled in the Royal Navy. This year’s event will commemorate Just Nuisance’s extraordinary spirit by featuring the annual dog walk along the streets of Simon’s Town, joined by non-profit dog rescue organisation, The Emma Animal Rescue Society (TEARS). Various competitions and a lucky draw will take place while the naval marching band and canine unit keep the crowd entertained. All proceeds from the event will go towards Tears’ mobile medical unit. Registration will take place at 8am on the SA Naval Sports field during which the K9 Dog Unit will have its display. The Navy band will lead walkers and dogs during the walk which will start at 10am, followed by judging and prize-giving at 11am. The birthday cake will be cut at noon followed by the Tears paw parade at 12.30pm. For a small fee, a local photographer will be available from 10am to noon to take portraits of any dog willing to pose in the pop-up studio, with 10% of the proceeds donated to Tears.
