The new Masiphumelele taxi rank was officially opened to the public today, Friday July 26.
Residents and community leaders gathered outside the facility for the occasion.
The R16 million project started in May last year and replaces the taxi rank east of Pokela Road, which had no office, public toilet or shelter for commuters.Â
The new rank has space for 65 minibus taxis, and approximately 4 000 people will pass through it daily, catching taxis to Fish Hoek, Kommetjie, Scarborough, Sun Valley and Simon’s Town (“Taxi rank to make commuters’ life easy”, Echo, April 11).Â
Mayoral committee member for transport and urban development, Felicity Purchase, cut the ribbon to officially declare the taxi rank open.Â
She thanked the community for their support to make the project a success.Â
Community leaders were thanked for their cooperation with a certificate of appreciation from the City of Cape Town.
