Two caught for illegal catch of fish species

Octopus, starfish, limpets, periwinkles and black mussels were recovered.
Two men were caught removing various fish species without a permit in St James on Saturday February 16.

Members of the public spotted the two and informed local security company Mountain Men Security and law enforcement.

Authorities followed up and found that the suspects had illegally taken octopus, starfish, limpets, periwinkles and black mussels.

City of Cape Town law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, said: “This type of illegal activity is having a devastating impact on our rapidly diminishing marine resources. The arrests are a good example of the effectiveness of the community and policing structures working together.”
