Three groups, aged between 7 and 75, set off from different starting points in the Silvermine nature reserve on Saturday April 17 to walk to the Lower Silvermine Wetlands to raise funds for the local volunteer group, the Riverine Rovers.
The walk marked the 10th anniversary of the annual Silvermine Source to Sea fund-raising walk hosted by the Riverine Rovers, under the auspices of the Friends of Silvermine Nature Area (FOSNA).
Participants could choose a 11.5km, 7.5km or 5.5km route and each walk had two leaders from Fosna or the Riverine Rovers.
“The organisers were overwhelmed by the response in support of this annual event and we are thrilled to have reached our target of R10 000,” said Dr Dave Balfour, chairperson of the Riverine Rovers.
The fund, he said, will enable the Riverine Rovers to continue with the employment of a river warden once a week and to develop additional signage for the area.
