The South African Weather Service has advised the disaster management centre than an intense cold front is expected to make landfall over the Cape Metropole tomorrow afternoon.
The cold front is expected to result in strong winds, high seas and rainfall that could result in localised flooding over the West Coast, Cape Metropole, Overberg and Cape Winelands Districts.
City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell said, “Heavy downpours of rain and strongly gusty winds with wind speeds of up to 65km/h are expected. The disaster management centre together with all city services will remain on standby during this period.”
The disaster management centre will co-ordinate any city response required as a result of the forecast and will monitor roads, informal settlements, mountainous and low lying areas.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and to report any weather related emergencies to the City’s call centre by dialling 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
