Sandy Trope, Glencairn Heights
Our lovely cat, Bella, went missing on Tuesday April 16. On Friday April 19, we found her and she had fallen down a two-metre deep and impossible-to-reach gap between the garage wall and an embankment.
She was still alive, but there was no way to reach her. We managed to lower food and water down the hole, but were incredibly anxious hearing her down there and not being able to get to her.
We had many amazing neighbours from Glencairn Heights trying to help, particularly Steve Meighan, the owner of Deep South Reptile Rescue.
But we didn’t have the equipment necessary and called Fish Hoek fire department, which, I understand, got in touch with Kommetjie Road fire station, and they came to the rescue and got her out.
We are so grateful to them and would like to say thank you as well to everyone in the neighbourhood who responded to our call for help and support.
She was taken to the 24-hour vet in Kenilworth who said she was dehydrated and her temperature was two degrees lower than normal. They treated her and said she can recover at home. On Monday morning, a vet gave her a clean bill of health.
