Thank you

Dave and Erica Swanson, Fish Hoek

In a world where most people are only concerned about themselves, we would like to thank Gert who came to our assistance on Thursday morning March 3.

My husband and I were taking our daily walk along Fish Hoek beachfront when a group of youngsters, armed with knives, attempted to rob us. In answer to my screams, Gert ran to our assistance and I honestly believe that it was his presence that caused them to run away.

He stayed with us until we were ready to go home. The police were very quick to respond and kept in contact with us over the weekend.

Cape Medical Response (CMR) dispatched a first responder who attended to the two stab wounds that my husband sustained, which the doctor later stitched up – 16 stitches in all.

So, amidst so many negatives, I would like to dwell on the positives: Gert came to our aid when he could have just carried on walking. The Fish Hoek police responded quickly and couldn’t have been nicer. The CMR first responder was so gentle and compassionate.

Please be careful wherever you go.
